RE: Suspension upgrades on 07 Seneca HD 35GS

What's the difference between a rear trac-bar and a rear sway-bar?

RE: 2008 Seneca 34SS Price Quote

30% off has been a good deal in years past, if it is a true MSRP and not a dealer's inflated price sheet.
With the RV market the way it is right now, though, steep price cuts may be more readily available than previously.

RE: KODIAK FUEL CAPACITY

I have a 2007 Gulf Stream Conquest Super C built on the Kodiak Chasis with the Chevy (C55000 8.1 vortex engine). I just filled up when the gas gauge was just about showing 1/2 full. It took 44 gallons. GS says that I have an 80 gal. tank. My biggest problem is that it takes forever to fill, as the pump keeps shuting off. This happens whether I hold the pump or put it on automatic....
IMO, I think it just has a poor vent system. Here's my take: The large fuel fill line goes into the side of the tank several inches down from the top. Once the fuel level gets higher than that, the displaced air in the tank has to go out through a small hose that comes out the top of the tank. I haven't traced that hose, but I suspect that it goes to some fuel vapor canister somewhere. In mine, you can't get enough air through that vent system once the fuel gets up that high to keep up with even the slowest steady fill rate from a gas pump. So therefore the last 20 gallons is just trickle-pump, stop, trickle-pump, stop, trickle-pump, stop, trickle-pump, stop, trickle-pump, stop, etc.

RE: Kodiak 8.1 heavy towing fuel mileage?

I've got a 2006 GS 6316 with the 8.1L. Running ~65 mph in flat country I get around 7.5 mpg. Towing a 3,000 lb Honda Civic at 65 mph, I get around 6.8 mpg.

RE: KODIAK FUEL CAPACITY

Here's my reply to your post on the GS owner forum...
Overhead in the driver's seat there should be a sticker with the build codes of installed equipment when it left GM. Here are the fuel tank codes --
N23 - 40 Gallons
NG6 - 40 Gallons
NH4 - 40 Gallons
NH5 - 60 Gallons
NJ9 - 80 Gallons
NN4 - 60 Gallons
Or you can crawl under there and read it off the side of the tank.
My 2006 Ultra C5500 has an 80-gallon tank, but you have to be very patient to get 80 gallons into it. First fuel cutoff is about 60 gallons, then you can trickle in another 20 gallons. I think the tank vent system is poor.
Also, the fuel gage is not very accurate on mine. If I have a full tank, the fuel gage will not drop off the full position until I've driven 150 miles or more -- at least 20 gallons down.
I get about 7.5 mpg at 65 mph in flat country. Towing a 2002 Honda Civic, I get about 6.5 to 7.0 mpg. I can figure on driving 400 miles or so on a (really full) tank with about 20 gallons to spare.
IMO, your expection of up to 650 miles on a tank is unrealistic and has nothing to do with the price you paid for the vehicle. If your dealer told you you would get 10 mpg with this truck, he was either lying or very misinformed. My salesman told me I would get 7.5 mpg and that's what I'm getting. If I ran the tank dry, that would be no more than 600 miles, but doing that is neither prudent nor safe.

RE: Seneca -vs- Endura

Gulf Stream posts its Kodiak chassis at 19500 GVWR and the International chassis at 25900 on their website. 22000 GVWR is about the max I have seen on a Kodiak 5500 chassis. I have not seen a listing for the GCWR for the Kodiak but it is 33000 on the International.
IIRC, a Kodiak chassis with GVWR = 19,500 has GCWR = 26,000.

RE: Gas or Diesel?

I have another brand Super-C, but it is on the Kodiak C-5500 chassis with the 8.1L gas engine. I get about 7.5 mpg not-towing and about 6.5 mpg towing.

RE: registration fees for 5th wheel in wyoming

I'm thinking she's got bad information. Here's one thing I found in a search on the topic:
"Ultimately, the main difference between registering a motor home and a standard passenger vehicle is the annual cost. Many of the smaller RVs may fall into a weight category similar to a monster SUV. Thus, they require only the standard $15 yearly state tax. But some of the larger models will be judged on weight, and the more the vehicle weighs, the more the state charges. Fees can shoot all the way up to $60."
That's the state fee. Here's more...
"The annual registration is comprised of two fees:
"County fee: Computed based on the current estimated worth of the vehicle. Essentially, this is like a property tax. The fees go to assist local schools and government operations.
"The basic formula the counties use to determine the fee is: factory cost x depreciation factor x .03%. A few of the county Web sites have a nifty calculating tool where you can enter the year and price paid for your vehicle and receive a basic estimate of your upcoming registration fee.
"State fee: A general tax (usually $15 per passenger vehicle and $15 to $60 per truck) placed on all vehicles and sent directly to the coffers of the state government."
As I read it, the county fee on a $30,000 5th wheel would be no more than $9.

RE: Satellite on Seneca

We added a Winegard crankup satellite dish to our MH. I strongly recommend the one with the elevation display option. We had ours installed separately from out existing batwing antenna. I think they do make combination units that have a batwing antenna built into the manual satellite dish so that it can be installed to replace the existing batwing antenna.

RE: Jayco Seneca vs. Gulf Stream Super Cs

We bought a new 2006 Gulf Stream Ultra Super-C in September, 2006. It was on clearance by the dealer and we bought it based on the great price versus what we were seeing for "normal" Class C's. We have thoroughly enjoyed it for the past 17 months. Problems have been relatively minor.

I adjusted mine last summer when I first got my 32SS and left it in the lowest position. It open and closes just fine.

I thought the original poster was talking about a model that has a slideout on that side that is under the awning.

RE: Where to buy Supernova?

There is a full page ad in this month's Motorhome magazine touting the Super Nova for Martinsburg RV in Martinsburg, PA. They say they are the #1 Super Nova dealer in the USA -- "always 15 or more available" -- "We deliver all across the USA." Coupon for $1000 off. www.MartinsburgRV.com

RE: 2008 Chateau 31F

And to make it even worse when you go to sell it in 5-6 years the VIN will show the buyer it is a 2007 even though Four Winds calls it a 2008. I ran into this when trying to purchase a unit and it is a very common (for the RV Industry) situation...
Your state motorvehicle title should show it as a 2008. If not, they made a mistake in titling it and should correct it. That's what happened to me when I bought a 2006 Gulf Stream Super-C built on a Chevy C5500 2005 chassis. The State of Florida sent me a title listing it as a 2005 vehicle, based on the VIN number. When I asked them about it, they acknowledged the error and sent me a new title showing it as a 2006. The manufacturer's Certificate of Origin determines the model year.

RE: It’s the Jeeps fault… Seneca or Supernova?

................However, two things will never find a way into my driveway: that engine and any Gulfstream product.

That's probably true since very few folks would put a Gulfstream airplane in their driveway. :)
By the way -- Gulf Stream makes RVs.

RE: Anyone happy with their Kodiak chassis ride?

I just checked my 2006 Gulf Stream Ultra 6316. (Normally, the Ultra series is a notch below the Endura series, optionwise.) Mine has the 2-1/2" tube. It was built early in the model year, so the C5500 chassis is actually 2005.
